Some species of wood become richer and darker with exposure to natural light. Approximately 50-60 percent of color change will occur in the first 3-4 months after installation. The completion of the process can take another 9-12 months. An arrow in the right most position (the darker area) indicates a product that typically is very photosensitive and will darken a great deal. While an arrow in the left most position (the lighter area) indicates a product that typically has minimal color change.
Most exotic species have a large color range and varied grain patterns, adding to the unique character of the product. BR111 sorts its products for color and in most cases BR111 flooring is finished natural without any stains. Exotic hardwood flooring is natural and each plank and species is unique. An arrow in the first position indicates a product that typically has a lot of color variation while an arrow in the last, right most, position indicates a product that typically has minimal color variation.
The hardness rating of flooring is determined by the Janka Hardness system. Janka Hardness represents the pounds of pressure required to embed a 0.444” diameter steel ball one half of it’s diameter into the wood. For our rating system we have converted the Janka Hardness scale into a simple 1-10 system. A hardness rating of 1 on our scale indicates a product that is less hard according to the Janka scale. While a hardness rating of 10 on our scale indicates a product that is at the top of the Janka Hardness scale and therefore is very hard and durable.

ALL ABOUT BRITTANY OAK
Brittany Oak, also known as European Oak, is a precision wire brushed and fumed version of the globally popular oak species. European Oak trees primarily grow in abundance in several Parts of Eastern and Western Europe as well as in West Asia and Northern Africa. European Oak trees are slow growing and very large trunked trees. Often growing to 50 feet tall and over 6 feet in diameter. Because of this European Oak is commonly available in ultra long and wide planks making it a perfect choice for flooring. Coloring tends to consist of light browns to dark tan hues. Sapwood and heartwood have similar colors and grain patterns. Sapwood tends to be lighter in color.
European Oak tends to have a silvery grain structure and a course texture. European Oak is a beautiful candidate for oil finishes as it tends to absorb them well and its strong grain patterns are greatly enhanced by oils soft finish.
